Know-how - Weider trains Olympians
Back in 1940 an 18-year-old called Joe Weider started investigating the science behind his long-standing passion for weightlifting. Meanwhile, the same young man can now look back on 70 years of experience in bodybuilding. He has consistently provided others with his knowledge and made it widely available. Joe knows all the Olympians – he hasn’t just worked out with them, he’s also advised them. Who hasn’t seen those great photos of Arnold and Joe in Gold’s Gym?
Joe Weider’s most important discovery is that each athlete has a different metabolism. This is due to genetics. About 99.9% of our genes are identical for all humans. All healthy individuals have two legs, two arms and so on. The rest of our genes – around six to eight million of them – make us different from one another.
Everyone’s different ...
Your genes determine whether you have dark or fair hair. The same goes for your metabolism, which also varies from person to person. Maybe you have also noticed this about your training partner: he eats less protein than you and still manages to put on more muscle mass – or perhaps it’s the other way around.
In addition to the different body types (endomorph, ectomorph or mesomorph), there are also differences in the way our bodies use nutrients. Generally speaking, there are two different
types of metabolism: the Carbo metaboliser and the Protein metaboliser
